A Day In The Life

The communal life of the Sisters is built around the shared prayer and worship of the Offices.

On a typical weekday the day looks like this:

Sisters meet in Chapel at 7.30 a.m. for the first Office of the day, known as Lauds. This is followed at 8.00 a.m. by the Eucharist, then breakfast.

At 12.15 Sisters meet in Chapel for the mid-day Office, Sext. After this they share lunch together, usually in silence. Often guests who are staying in the small retreat houses join the Sisters for lunch.

At 5.00 p.m. Sisters are again together in Chapel for Meditation, and Vespers follows at 5.30 p.m.

The final corporate worship of the day takes place at 8.00 p.m. when Sisters say Compline together in Chapel.

Between these shared events Sisters do their work of hospitality, housework, hospital visiting, writing letters of support and spiritual guidance, seeing people to whom they provide spiritual direction. Each Sister also spends time each day in private prayer, spiritual reading and meditation.

The Guest Sister will be very pleased to show guests where to go and answer questions.

Visitors are very welcome to join the Sisters at any of their services, including the Saturday Eucharist at 9.30 a.m. and Sunday Eucharist at 10.00 a.m. Most services are held in St Michael's House chapel.
